I have used “MovableType” before about three years, but we switch it to “WordPress” in this our official site updating.

I have used “MovableType” before about three years, but we switch it to “WordPress” in this our official site updating.
I begin to use “WordPress” over the past a month, there are differences of “WordPress” and “MovableType” of the points I’ve noticed.

[WordPress]

+ Open source project
+ No restructuring
+ Easily developing design themes
+ Post revision

- Creating new blog difficulty
- Need to having PHP skill for easily customizing

[MovableType]

+ Creating new blog easily
+ Easily customizing through use of MT Tag

- Need restructuring
- Not easily developing template set

In the future, I will customize something using PHP on “WordPress”.
I hope I can report it in next post.

[WordPress]

[MovableType]

On this redesign we had to make and take the decision of which platform to use to power the site and blog. The candidates were WordPress, Moveable Type Open Source Version, Expression Engine and a couple other CMSes/Blogging Platforms.

In the end it was down to a choice between WordPress and MT. And the reason we choose WordPress was that the company behind it is fully committed to Open Source and this fits in with our philosphy of giving back to the community. It is also being actively worked on, with each release you can see improvements. And most of the functions we need are covered in the core or with a handful of plugins.

Take has a massive amount of experience with MT dwarfing my experience with WordPress, but he pointed out that MT OS was buggy and not well supported on some operating systems and browser combinations. I think that SixApart, really still don’t get the whole mechanics of Open Source. But if they are profitable and continue to be successful then all power to them.

We are at this moment in time using WordPress 2.7 RC2. I am not a bleeding edge kind of guy but the auto-update function of 2.7 is a must have feature. I’ve been using WordPress since v1.2 and it is such a hassle to update, if you are managing more than 1 or 2 sites. This problem vanishes with 2.7

[update] Wow, between starting this post and finishing it 2.7 has gone gold and now this site is using it.
